The Nature of the Earth's Interior

The Earth is made up of layers.  Each layer has it's own qualities as shown below:

The Interior of the Earth


* Crust - thin, outermost layer of the Earth, broken into Continental and Oceanic

* Mantle - upper part is called the lithosphere, lower part is called the asthenosphere

* Outer Core - molten rock

* Inner Core - solid rock as a result of all the pressure on it


Types of Plate Boundries


The area where a plate meets another plate is called a plate boundry.  There are three kinds of plate boundries; divergent, convergent, and transform.  At a divergent boundry, two plates move away from eachother.  At a convergent boundry, two plate move towards eachother.  At a transform boundry, two plates slide parallel to eachother.
